Industry Institute Collaborations: The Way Forward

The growing complexity of industrial environment and practice, perhaps, needs to be reflected in the prevalent management education. On one hand industry expects appropriately skilled manpower for its future needs and on the other, management institutions desire that their students carry proper skills and knowledge suited to industry. This converging need, intensified by rise of a global knowledge economy, calls for a mutually interdependent relationship that requires identifying scope for strengthening Industry Institute Collaboration (IIC) and thus creating synergies. This area remains vastly unexplored and research therein appears to be in its infancy. Bridging the gap between industry expectations and institute delivery is the need of the hour, since it will have great bearing on the curriculum, exposure of students to industrial atmosphere and subsequent placement of young management graduates across various industry sectors. The success of IIC will depend on various dimensions to it like institutional support collaboration, academic level collaboration, service collaboration, cooperative collaboration, student level collaboration, etc.


Delivering these outcomes then calls for a greater discussion and interaction among industry executives and academicians. Hence, the theme chosen for this conference is:

“Industry Institute Collaborations: The Way Forward”.


With a view to further explore and understand different facets of the chosen theme, Tirpude Institute of Management Education, Nagpur, invites academicians, industry managers and research scholars to share their knowledge and insights at this International Conference in February 2019, by way of research.



The participating delegates are expected to accrue certain benefits of this conference, like:

  • Interaction among industry leaders/managers and academicians will result in enhanced information exchange on practical aspects by way of case analysis
  • Participants will be able to update themselves in terms of current issues and problems with respect to collaborations of industry and academic institutes during panel discussion and presentation of research papers
  • Participants will be listening to experts coming as keynote speakers, narrating from their own experiences.

The conference will be organized on 22nd and 23rd February, 2019, at the institute premises, and will include:

  • Keynote addresses by eminent experts from different industries
  • Case discussion on issues of industry and situations, related to the theme
  • Research paper presentation (qualitative and quantitative) and
  • Panel discussion.

Further, research papers presented at the conference shall be brought out in the conference proceedings with ISBN recognition. All selected papers will be published online only on the institute’s website.


Objectives of the International Conference:

  • To provide a platform for exchange of ideas, thoughts and views on Industry Institute Collaborations.
  • To bring about greater interaction and sharing among participating delegates and thus provide value to them, which has practical orientation.
  • To discuss cases related to the conference theme and find solutions from a cross-section of industry executives and academicians.
  • To provide impetus to original research, promote thinking beyond existing boundaries, to awaken curiosity, to break away from rational and conventional ideas and to consider multiple solutions and alternatives for sustainable growth.

Call for Research Papers:

Research papers on tracks relevant to the conference theme ‘Industry Institute Collaborations – The Way Forward’ are invited and should reach the Conference Secretary on or before 7th January, 2019.


Guidelines to be followed for research papers are as under:

Cover Page: A cover page mentioning the title of paper, track & theme, name of the author(s), affiliation and contact details.

Maximum words: Not more than 5000 words

Font: Times New Roman

Font Size:       Case title: 14-size, Times New Roman font, capitals & centred;

Main headings & exhibits: 12-size, Times New Roman, bold, capitals;

Subheadings: 12-size, Times New Roman, bold;

Body text: 12-size, Times New Roman;

A Case Analysis session will be conducted on issues of industry and situations, related to the conference theme, wherein solutions need to be found. Academicians, industry managers and research scholars willing to participate in case analysis session are required to register for the event through the ‘registration’ tab.




  • Selected complete cases from different industries/companies will be forwarded to the delegates who have registered for the case analysis session.
  • Each delegate will have to select only one case for analysis and also inform the organizers of which case he/she wishes to take up.
  • The delegate will be required to
    • prepare the case analysis report as per guidelines mentioned below and
    • present his/her case on the day of the event, as per the schedule.


Guidelines for case analysis - Delegates:


  • Participation can be as an individual or as a team.
  • Participants must be faculty members or researchers of an educational institute or owner/partner/manager/employee of a business organization.
  • Participant(s) must fill and submit the required participation form.


Submission Guidelines

  • A document on case analysis (with solutions) needs to be submitted. Teaching note may be submitted by participants, if they so desire.
  • Cover page must include author name, designation, affiliation & contact details.
  1. It is suggested that length of the case analysis (including exhibits, if any) not exceed 12 pages. If case analysis has only text, it should be a maximum of 6 pages.
  1. Teaching notes (if submitted) are suggested to have 4-6 pages and consist of a synopsis, learning objectives, discussion questions along with suggested answers/analysis, suggested readings and teaching plan (of these, 2-3 pages can be suggested/ possible answers to the discussion questions).
    • Participants, whose case analyses would be shortlisted, will also have to submit a PPT to be presented during the conference. This will be communicated to them separately by way of a mail. Such presentations may include the following:
      • Brief history of the case
      • Case highlights
      • Issues and problems in the case
      • Alternative solutions with reasons/justifications
      • Best solution
      • Road ahead
    • Spelling and grammar check is necessary. Typographical errors need to be avoided.
    • Use of British spellings is encouraged (however ‘ize’ is acceptable; e.g. organization, analyze).
      • Font style: Use _Case title: 14-size, Times New Roman font, capitals & centred;
      • Main headings & exhibits: 12-size, Times New Roman, bold, capitals;
      • Subheadings: 12-size, Times New Roman, bold;
      • Body text: 12-size, Times New Roman;
      • Text in exhibits: 10-size, Times New Roman.
  • Exhibits: Refer to all additional presentations at the end of the case as ‘Exhibits’. Avoid using alternative words like ‘annexure’ and ‘appendix’.
  • When referring to an exhibit in the text of the case, insert the words “(see Exhibit no._)” at the appropriate place.
  • Quote the source for each exhibit. Please indicate whether the exhibit is an original document extraction or the author’s creation using original document data.
  • Exhibits should be of a quality that is suitable for reproduction. Spread sheets and tables should be inserted into the document as editable objects (not as images), in case further editing is required.
  • Most cases are photocopied and distributed in black & white; Hence, do not use colour exhibits (graphs, charts, tables, maps, etc.).
  • References: Please use footnotes for citing sources and references, using APA Style for footnotes.
