Curricular are activities that go hand in hand with the academic development of student. These activities are imperative for practical exposure, analytical skill development and career focus. Some of the curricular activities are compulsory for the student as they are the part of their performance evaluation. These activities are spread over all the semesters and require whole hearted participation by the students.

Summer Internship (SIP) is a programme wherein students of MBA Sem-II work with some private or public company or tile1organization so as to gain first and practical experience of business and practical business exposure. This way they are able to relate what they learn in classrooms with actual business practices prevalent. SIP is compulsory for all Sem-II students immediately after their final University exams and should be for duration of minimum 45days and maximum 60 days. The SIP work done by each student is subsequently evaluated and carries a maximum of 100 marks in University mark list of Sem-III.

SIP carries a lot of importance, for students and companies both, when the students appear for final placement interviews and hence students are expected to take up SIP work and report very seriously.

Eligibility for SIP through college:

1.Summer Internship Program is compulsory for all students after MBA Sem II.

2. Minimum 50% attendance in class is required.

3. Minimum 14 days of prior short term projects should be done by the students.

Preparations for SIP:

1. T&P will assist students in making resumes, which students need to submit before end of Semester Itile2

2. T&P will also generate all the database of student in given format

3. Student Committee of SIP will coordinate and facilitate the SIP activity.

Procedure:

THROUGH COLLEGE:

1. SIP opportunity is disclosed to students through FB (SIP page), mails, whatsapp and Notice Board.

2. Students register their names for the company with SIP faculty in-charge and resumes of such students are sent to company, collectively.

3. Interviews are lined up with company, briefing of work to be done is explained by faculty member/company official and selection process / interviews are then conducted by the company officials.

4. Selected students are informed accordingly after the process.

5. Students have to join on specified dates (generally after Univ. Exams) and complete SIP for the specified number of days.

6. Students are required to prepare weekly report during SIP and also visit college faculty mentor whenever possible to discuss, if required. The discussion can also be through mails, telecom for outstation students. Format for weekly report shall be given well in advance.

7. A formal SIP project report is required to be made, in consultation with mentors at college and company office, immediately at start of Sem-III.

8. Students also have to prepare a PPT on SIP report and make formal presentation on dates specified. The SIP work is evaluated (for 100 marks) on the basis of presentation and Viva Voce, which is conducted for all students during their Sem-III as per University norms.

9. Absenteeism in this regard shall lead to failure in the University exam.

Self Arranged:

1. Student applies to the company directly and follows up till he/she gets selected. College will issue a bonafide letter to the company, for this purpose.

2. Student informs college authority of his/her selection and submits document to SIP in-charge at college for confirmation of the same.

3. SIP In-charge shall incorporate contact and other details of the company in his/her records.

4. The college shall provide SIP request application as when required by the company.

      Rules / Code of Conduct :

1. SIP for minimum 45 days and maximum 60 days is compulsory as per University requirements.

2. No marks will be given by University(out of 100) if a student fails to do SIP.

3. Once the students are selected for any company, they are required to join the company on specified date. If a student is not likely to join on the date specified, he/she shalldiscuss this with the faculty in-charge and the Chairman-T&P.

4. In case the SIP is extended beyond the specified dates, the same needs to be informed to the SIP in-charge, who shall discuss this with the company and inform student accordingly.

5. In case the SIP getsextended beyond reopening of college (Sem-III), the same shall be informed in advance and T&P shall grant permission to work only after college hours in such cases.

6. The student is expected to follow all disciplinary norms as explained earlier in the placement process.

7. In case the student discontinues the SIP, the onus is on the student to communicate to the SIP in charge who shall evaluate the reasons and accordingly take necessary action.

 

FAQs

 

What is SIP and what is its significance?

SIP stands for Summer Internship program. The purpose of SIP is to facilitate student’s exposure to management practices actually followed by organisations. This also helps the students to relate the theories learnt with management practices in corporate world.

 

Who is eligible for SIP and what areas in industry can be selected? 

Students who have completed their second semester MBA are eligible for SIP. The areas in industry in which SIP can be done are Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, IT, Agri business, International Business etc.

Do companies pay stipend and give certificates for SIP?

It is not mandatory on the part of the company to pay stipend. It is company’s management decision, whether to pay stipend or not. However, Certificates are issued to the students on successful completion of SIP.

Is job guaranteed after SIP in the same organization?

Job is not guaranteed after SIP in the same organisation. If the student is capable, the company may offer a job (depends on company’s management discretion).

Do I need to sign any contract for SIP?

No contract is signed by the student for undergoing SIP. However it is the student’s responsibility to complete the SIP within stipulated time in good terms with the company.

 

Do I need to prepare any project report after SIP?

Yes, the students are required to prepare a Project report on the basis of project undertaken in SIP.

Is it compulsory to do SIP through college?

College undertakes to arrange for SIP for all registered students, through its T&P Cell. Students may however arrange SIP at their own level, but with prior intimation to the T&P Cell.
