Curricular are activities that go hand in hand with the academic development of student. These activities are imperative for practical exposure, analytical skill development and career focus. Some of the curricular activities are compulsory for the student as they are the part of their performance evaluation. These activities are spread over all the semesters and require whole hearted participation by the students.

Summer Internship Programme (SIP)

Summer Internship (SIP) is a programme wherein students of MBA Sem-II work with some private or public company or organization so as to gain first and practical experience of business and practical business exposure. This way they are able to relate what they learn in classrooms with actual business practices prevalent. SIP is compulsory for all Sem-II students immediately after their final University exams and should be for duration of minimum 45days and maximum 60 days. The SIP work done by each student is subsequently evaluated and carries a maximum of 100 marks in University mark list of Sem-III.

SIP carries a lot of importance, for students and companies both, when the students appear for final placement interviews and hence students are expected to take up SIP work and report very seriously.

Eligibility for SIP through college:

1.Summer Internship Program is compulsory for all students after MBA Sem II.

2. Minimum 50% attendance in class is required.

3. Minimum 14 days of prior short term projects should be done by the students.

Preparations for SIP:

1. T&P will assist students in making resumes, which students need to submit before end of Semester I

2. T&P will also generate all the database of student in given format

3. Student Committee of SIP will coordinate and facilitate the SIP activity.

Procedure:

THROUGH COLLEGE:

1. SIP opportunity is disclosed to students through FB (SIP page), mails, whatsapp and Notice Board.

2. Students register their names for the company with SIP faculty in-charge and resumes of such students are sent to company, collectively.

3. Interviews are lined up with company, briefing of work to be done is explained by faculty member/company official and selection process / interviews are then conducted by the company officials.

4. Selected students are informed accordingly after the process.

5. Students have to join on specified dates (generally after Univ. Exams) and complete SIP for the specified number of days.

6. Students are required to prepare weekly report during SIP and also visit college faculty mentor whenever possible to discuss, if required. The discussion can also be through mails, telecom for outstation students. Format for weekly report shall be given well in advance.

7. A formal SIP project report is required to be made, in consultation with mentors at college and company office, immediately at start of Sem-III.

8. Students also have to prepare a PPT on SIP report and make formal presentation on dates specified. The SIP work is evaluated (for 100 marks) on the basis of presentation and Viva Voce, which is conducted for all students during their Sem-III as per University norms.

9. Absenteeism in this regard shall lead to failure in the University exam.

Self Arranged:

1. Student applies to the company directly and follows up till he/she gets selected. College will issue a bonafide letter to the company, for this purpose.

2. Student informs college authority of his/her selection and submits document to SIP in-charge at college for confirmation of the same.

3. SIP In-charge shall incorporate contact and other details of the company in his/her records.

4. The college shall provide SIP request application as when required by the company.

Rules / Code of Conduct :

1. SIP for minimum 45 days and maximum 60 days is compulsory as per University requirements.

2. No marks will be given by University(out of 100) if a student fails to do SIP.

3. Once the students are selected for any company, they are required to join the company on specified date. If a student is not likely to join on the date specified, he/she shalldiscuss this with the faculty in-charge and the Chairman-T&P.

4. In case the SIP is extended beyond the specified dates, the same needs to be informed to the SIP in-charge, who shall discuss this with the company and inform student accordingly.

5. In case the SIP getsextended beyond reopening of college (Sem-III), the same shall be informed in advance and T&P shall grant permission to work only after college hours in such cases.

6. The student is expected to follow all disciplinary norms as explained earlier in the placement process.

7. In case the student discontinues the SIP, the onus is on the student to communicate to the SIP in charge who shall evaluate the reasons and accordingly take necessary action.

FAQs

What is SIP and what is its significance?

SIP stands for Summer Internship program. The purpose of SIP is to facilitate student’s exposure to management practices actually followed by organisations. This also helps the students to relate the theories learnt with management practices in corporate world.

Who is eligible for SIP and what areas in industry can be selected?

Students who have completed their second semester MBA are eligible for SIP. The areas in industry in which SIP can be done are Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, IT, Agri business, International Business etc.

Do companies pay stipend and give certificates for SIP?

It is not mandatory on the part of the company to pay stipend. It is company’s management decision, whether to pay stipend or not. However, Certificates are issued to the students on successful completion of SIP.

Is job guaranteed after SIP in the same organization?

Job is not guaranteed after SIP in the same organisation. If the student is capable, the company may offer a job (depends on company’s management discretion).

Do I need to sign any contract for SIP?

No contract is signed by the student for undergoing SIP. However it is the student’s responsibility to complete the SIP within stipulated time in good terms with the company.

Do I need to prepare any project report after SIP?

Yes, the students are required to prepare a Project report on the basis of project undertaken in SIP.

Is it compulsory to do SIP through college?

College undertakes to arrange for SIP for all registered students, through its T&P Cell. Students may however arrange SIP at their own level, but with prior intimation to the T&P Cell.

Case Study Workshops

Case study method is an important method of teaching for MBA students. In view of this comprehensive case study workshopsare conducted at the institute, every year, for students of MBA Semester-III and Semester-I. Numerous cases are analysed at different levels, in three phases. The benefits accrued to students are that they’re able to develop an analytical mind and are able to search various elements of the case, the issues and problems involved, elements causing issues, their inter-relationships, alternate solutions and the best possible solution to solve the case.

The workshopsare aimed at developing analytical insights among students and to demonstrate how various elements of a case (which is a business situation) affect organizations and how crucial a role they play in the decision making process.A total of 25 – 30 cases are generally identified and prepared for students to analyse. To begin with, a pre-training session is held for faculty members to effectively conduct the cases, simultaneously, in different student groups. The workshop is held in two phases for all student groups formed for this purpose:

Phase 1 involves reading and re-reading the cases thoroughly and students are taught the methodology to prepare their respective cases for discussion later. One faculty member is allotted to each of the student groups, comprising of 10 – 12 students each. Faculty members guide students on conduct of workshop for their respective groups and also guide them on preparing PPTs for discussion later; students learn the facts, issues & problems, alternative solutions and way forward while analysing the cases.

Phase 2 is the ‘Case Presentation’ round, where each student group presents their respective cases to faculty members who judged them. Every student of each group is required to present some aspect of the case, systematically, and discuss the same analytically. Students are evaluated individually and also group-wise based on how they analyse and present their cases. Questions are posed by judges, which students are required to answer and explain, during the course of presentations.

Students participating in these workshops are happy at learning one more skill for management decision making. All these case workshop sessions are conducted in different class rooms, simultaneously. ‘Best Presenter’ groups are awarded and their names are displayed on notice boards in order to encourage them participate in more such activities.

Tirpude’s Management Aptitude Test (T-MAT)

T-MAT is a programme designed to develop management aptitude among MBA students. This programme, which continues throughout the first semester, comprises of aptitude training and tests under four sections viz. English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.

This exercise is for those students who have scored an aggregate of less than 60% in the test for eligibility. Faculty mentors are appointed for individual areas of aptitude and there are about 12 students under each mentor.

T-MAT is important to students from the point of view of competency mapping also, as it is a strongreference for student to carefully select a company or a business sector he/she intends to work for. It thus helps monitoring of students every semester and make them ‘ready’ for the real world.

The institute itself designs and develops content for the 4 sections. Faculty members are given this responsibility based on their own competence and interest. A language lab is set up for developing English language skills and it is equipped with linguistic and phonetic aids to help students gain the required competence in English as a language.

What does T-MAT stand for?

Tirpude’s Management Aptitude Test.

What is the purpose of T-MAT?

Students get an opportunity to know themselves and their competencies, which makes them ready for any job related tests or exams. It is a platform to assess the skills of a student.

What all is included in T-MAT?

The students have to solve objective type question in four areas viz. logical reasoning, english, general knowledge and quantitative techniques.

Is there any negative marking for this exam / test?

No, there is no negative marking. The student has to solve any 25 questions out of the given 30 questions.

Is there any pass or fail criteria in this test?

No, since this is an assessment test – there is no pass or fail criteria. There are mentoring sessions conducted for each subject – for students in a batch of 10 to 15 students in one batch. Each student gets personal attention this way.

Tirpude’s Student Aptitude Test (T-SAT)

T-SAT is a programme designed to test student aptitude from the point of view of his career prospects. This is done during the 2^nd semester of MBA and is also aimed at helping student select his/her specialization subjects for semesters III and IV. Here, several tests are administered to check not only the students’ general aptitude (English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude) but also his/her management subject aptitude and natural propensity toward any specific area(s) on management.

T-SAT is conducted in several phases and the first phase to be administered comprises of psychometric tests, including Meyers Brigs Type Indicator (MBTI) test, where various facets of the students’ personality are revealed. These tests could hint at certain specific management areas in which student could think of working later in his/her life, but this needs to be corroborated with other tests and students’ own thoughts and work plans. Second phase is the aptitude test and the third one is subject aptitude, which comprises of tests on core management subjects like marketing, finance and human resource management. The fourth and last phase is the case study, wherein students study six business cases from different specialization subjects are given and students are required to solve any two of their choice.

A career wall is developed for all three main specialization subjects – finance, marketing and human resource management. This provides details of entry level jobs available to students immediately after passing MBA, the job requirements/description for each position and also the various skills needed to perform jobs at these positions. This is a very useful aid for students to have insights in how the job market actually is.

During T-SAT, stress is given on what student has to say about his future plans and specializations to be selected rather than mentors giving sermons. The report of scores on students’ performance in all the phases conducted forms the basis of all discussions. Toward end, the faculty mentor suggests specialization subjects and also the student’s own choice is recorded. At the end of the counselling session the student should be able to freeze his functional specialization. His/her family background, family influences and expectations are also taken into consideration during T-SAT counselling sessions. Based on how student has fared in various tests/phases of T-SAT, one of the below-mentioned improvement programme is proposed for him/her and a faculty mentor is also suggested for regular guidance:

a.Enhancement Programme: For above average students to help them polish their skills.

b. Action Plan: For students who opt for a specialization subject different from the one recommended.

c. Remedial Programme: For below average students so as to develop their basic skills and abilities.

What does T-SAT stand for?

What is the purpose of T-SAT?

This institute is a pioneer in setting this trend which started in 2013. The basic objective is to help the student do their own SWOT analysis and help them in selecting their specialization – to make them ‘job’ ready.

How and when is T-SAT conducted?

The process starts when the student is in the 2^nd SEM of MBA. The student undergoes a series of psychometric tests followed by some subject related tests – and then an overall score sheet is made for each and every single student.

How does this process help a student in selecting their specialization?

After the student has undergone the tests – an individual file is made for the student. The student then meets a faculty member who acts as a counsellor for that single student. The counselling process includes every student of MBA SEM 2.

Do these tests have any pass or fail criteria?

No, similar to T-MAT, these tests are conducted to assess the student.

Is the student expected to finalize the specialization during counselling?

No. the student can decide it then and there itself or can borrow some time from the counsellor in finalizing the specialization.

How does T-SAT help the student in the near future?

T-SAT is a very useful tool for the students. During their SIP and final placements, this helps in giving them the best job opportunities available based on the specialization, they have selected.

Is the student allowed to change the specialization after the counselling is done?

The College allows a change in the specialization subject to the student giving a valid and a strong reason. However the student while filling the university exam form has to be careful in putting the right specialization in the form. No further changes can be made thereafter.

Induction

BBA/BCCA Induction

Fresh batches of BBA and BCCA students are inducted in the month of July and MBA students in August, at Tirpude Institute of Management Education, amidst enthusiasm and curiosity. In a meticulously planned programmethat goes to 3 – 5 days, these students are made familiar with the institute’s philosophy and the various curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities it conducts throughout the academic year.

‘Freshers’, as they are called,are warmly welcomed at the college auditorium by their seniors amid music and dance with an intention to break ice and to make them comfortable. Short video clips are shown to familiarize the students with events and activities that are so unique to Tirpude Institute in terms of innovation, format and scale. Faculty members also brief the gathering on these events. Thereafter, student teams were formed in a creative way with seniors as mentors, so as to prepare for participation in various activities planned thereafter.

Students assemble in their allotted class rooms, on day-2, and Institute’s Dean and other senior faculty members conductedinformation oriented interactive sessions with new students. Several queries, that new students are likely to have, are answered. The students are informed to be a part of rigorous activity based learning, which the institute imparts with conviction.

The following day witnesses an atmosphere surcharged with enthusiasm, camaraderie and anticipation among the students being inducted. Course co-coordinator for BBA/BCCA addresses them to appraise them of rules laid down by the institute and the expected conduct of students. This includes class attendance, class activities, events, assignments and other activities aimed at their development. Team activities are conducted, wherein teams formed on the first day are required to perform certain tasks allotted. This includes the immensely popular ramp walk also, where students walk the ramp in teams based on theme they select.

MBA Induction

Last year this was conducted in a very unique manner. To begin with, 16 stalls, in the form of an expo, were set up in the college auditorium on the first day of induction. Each stall had one faculty member and a group of designated senior MBA students to manage the stall. Each new student visited each and every stall and faculty members present ensured this and also that whatever queries the new student had was answered. Each stall represented one activity of the college and senior students manning those stalls explained everything about that activity by way of a PPT and also handed over FAQs pertaining to that activity.

The objective of this TIME MBA Expo was to provide information to students about the Institute, its policies, enhancement programs, events and activities. All this information was communicated to the students through stalls specifically set up for this purpose.

The MBA induction programme also includes grooming session, interaction with seniors, several outbound / outdoor activities, alumni panel discussion, guest lectures and management games. Students enjoy the programme thoroughly and participate wholeheartedly in all activities. The ‘Induction’ culminates with distribution of prizes to winning teams, at the hands of senior faculty members, followed by a jam session with DJ and music.

One day workshop on Intellectual Property rights and Management

Knowledge on intellectual property is indispensable in today’s globalized business, research and development, and innovations. Issues in food, water, energy, waste, health, disease, communication, and transportation among others require creative and innovative solutions.
On the above backdrop, Tirpude Institute of Management Education organized a one day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights.
The main aim of workshop was to impart greater awareness about the issue of Intellectual Property Right (IPR), which has gained a special importance for all the domains of socio-economic development. It aid to understand of patentability criteria in details and viable aspect of the patent.
This seminar provided the foundation on intellectual property rights including copyrights, patents and utility models, trademarks, industrial designs, trade secrets, and many more.
Sessions that were conducted in the workshop were:
• Introduction to IPR Spectrum
• Patentability Criteria with Case Studies
• Patenting Mechanism and Procedure
The sessions were conducted by Prof. Abhishek Shahu and Adv. Richa Inamdar while addressing the audience stressed on the importance of IPR for the benefit of future growth. The sessions were attended by 60 students.

Seminar on Simple steps to Business / Career
18/01/14 – 20/01/14

Tirpude institute of Management Education (TIME) introduces a workshop – Tirpude’s Innovation Programme for Students (TIPS). The workshop was designed keeping in mind various innovative aspects that are required in the industry.
The workshop covered various concepts. The concepts covered were-
• Bringing innovation in family Business
• Living the boardroom battle
• Career in Financial services by Alumni Gaurav Sikka
• Workshop on IPR basics
• Patenting system in India
• Understanding behavioral economics by Dr. Medha Dixit
The session on ‘Bringing innovation in family business’ gave students having family business an overview of critical transitions in family businesses , and how to introduce and bring innovations. The session was conducted by an Alumnus Mr. Dinesh Godhani.
The session on boardroom battle aimed at equipping the students with practical tools for participating in board and also gave an insight on power struggle in a corporate.
The session on Career in Financial services was conducted by our Alumnus Mr. Gaurav Sikka. The workshop explored the process of moving from practice to business and the skills needed within the financial services industry.
The session on Intellectual Property Rights included talks on importance of IPR and their protection. The Day 3 session on Patenting system in India focused on patenting procedures. The session on Behavioral economics provided students with valuable insights on how to start changing how individual think and thereby changing how organizations think.
The workshop was attended by 89 students.

Seminar on Managing Business & Career Planning
15/12/14 to 17/12/14

A 3 day seminar was organised for the MBA students in the month of December 2014.

On the 1st day, we had sessions on “Changing Indian Family Businesses” by Alumni Nitin Thuteja and on “Future of MSME” by Ms. Sakshi Mehunkar.
On the 2nd day, we had sessions on “Understanding Trademark, Copyrights & Patents; the 3 most common IPR” and on “Career in IT” by Alumni Ritu Tagral.
On the final day, we had sessions on “Innovations in tourism industry” by Alumni Anurag Sharma and on “Open Innovation: ENABLING EXTRAORDINARY CHANGES” by Dr. Lalit Khullar.

The sole objective of this seminar was to give the MBA students the insight about the various aspects of business by industry domain experts.

The students were very participative and gained good amount of knowledge through these interactive sessions.

Total of 103 students had registered for this workshop with an average daily attendance was 91%

Tirpude institute of Management Education (TIME) had conducted a workshop by the name of Tirpude’s Innovation Programme for Students (TIPS) in the month of January 2016. The workshop was designed for the MBA students, to relate them about the current industry trends and connect the same with academics.
The workshop covered various concepts. The concepts covered were-

• Opportunities in Telecom industry by Ms. Kanta Dudhani.

The sessions gave students an overview of critical transitions in setting up new businesses, and how to introduce and bring innovations. .

Seminar on “Entrepreneur’s Boot-camp”

TIPS 2016 was organised for the final year students of MBA on the 15th, 16th and 17th of December 2016.

Total of 103 students had registered for this workshop.

On 15th Dec 2016, we had sessions on – “Sources of finance to start new business” by Dr. Sanjay Kavishwar and a Session on “Basic understanding of IPR” by Adv. Mahesh Murugan.
On 16th, we had sessions on – “Panel Discussion by Alumni/Industrialists on Issues & Challenges of Family Business and a Session on “IPR & Patents: The Context, Basics and Strategic Implications for Industry & Academia” by Dr. Lalit Khullar.
On 17th, we had sessions on – “How to take your business online” by Mr. Sanjay Arora and a Session on “Digital marketing” by Mr. Rohit Gupta.

The students gave their feedback on TIPS and participation letters were distributed to students by the faculty members of TIME.
